This month for my marketing topic, I wanted to let you know about a book that I just finished reading. It is called “The Unfair Advantage – Small Business Advertising Manual.” It is written by a friend of mine Claude Whitacre. Claude owns a very successful business in Wooster Ohio and has been studying and practicing marketing for many years.
The biggest thing that Claude talks about is having a good headline. Without a headline, who is going to read the rest of your ad? And just FYI, your store name is not a headline. No one is as excited by your store name except you.
Think about when you read a newspaper. What does every article have? If you read that headline and it doesn’t pertain to you, do you read the article? Would you be more likely to read an article that the headline read
“Tom’s Souvenirs”
or
“31,287 Souvenir Choices. If You Can’t Find The Perfect Souvenir Here, You Must Not Be Looking!”
While this might not fit your store exactly, I am sure there is something that you could come up with that will work.
